{'I could have killed them' - Lawson experiences dangerous incident with F1 safety personnel
Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a potentially deadly collision during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when a pair of track officials ran across the track right in his path
The concerning event took place on the third circuit when safety workers were seen on the track as Lawson was returning to the race following an premature pit stop to change his compromised front wing
Driver's Immediate Reaction
Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"
"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"
"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two individuals dashing across the track"
"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"
Safety Concerns Raised
"Obviously there's been a failure in communication at some point but I've never experienced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"
"We fail to grasp how on a active circuit safety personnel can be authorized to just sprint across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but it really can't happen again"
Governing Body Reviewing
Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is thoroughly reviewing the events
"Following a turn one incident, the race directors was notified that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" stated the governing body
"In the third rotation, marshals were informed and placed on standby to access the circuit and recover the debris once the entire field had cleared the area"
"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy officials were canceled and a caution signal was displayed in that area"
"We are still investigating what transpired following that moment"
