The exciting extra-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Last Saturday’s memorable game drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally is the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American average was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% rise over the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.
